My First Mandala

BY MARIKO MIHO

As we were guided by PJ’s energy and voice, I was suddenly inspired by the picture and beauty of Mt Fuji. Through PJ’s compassionate guidance and cadence I felt my ego and intellect dissolve effortlessly. Moments of calm, gratitude and joy came through.

I felt the muse to write and draw. By the time the exercise was over, the irritable and nagging energy that had lingered around me since morning, had disappeared. I felt lighter and positive - yippee! That bad energy that had latched onto me vanished! I was thrilled and so grateful!

The mandala exercise was surprisingly calm and centering.

I experienced how mandalas can be used as a way for self reflection and connection, nurturing healing for all people, across all abilities. I feel this mandala exercise would benefit anyone who is inspired to do this, especially those suffering from depression, mental illness, learning disabilities, anxiety and compulsions. It would be interesting to see how taiko and mandala can be paired together in a workshop. Embodied practice!
